Trandate (Labetalol)

General information

Trandate belongs to a class of medications called beta-blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body such as epinephrine on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart. It is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

Directions

Take Trandate exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended starting dose is 100 mg by mouth twice daily after food. The usual maintenance dose ranges from 200 mg to 400 mg by mouth twice daily. The maximum recommended dose is 600 mg by mouth twice daily. To reduce your risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose.
